Or is it only bulls that charge? Hummmmm........
So I was out this morning doing my assignment for my photography workshop out near the old hotel near Happy Bay when I had to ask myself if in a pinch I could outrun a cow.
There was evidence of the presence of cows all along the road. Fresh dung and in the distance I could hear the occasional mooing. Now I grew up next door to my grand father and great grand mother. My grand father raised livestock and was a butcher, so hearing the cows moo went largely un-noticed as I fought with the settings on my Dslr in manual mode to get the shot I wanted. I must add here I was upwind from the cow and never heard it coming or smelt anything until it was two feet away! All of a sudden I heard this loud 'moooooooo' coming from right behind me and turned to see two tons of solid healthy cow two feet away. Her moo probably meant 'hey get outta the way dearie before I run you over'. My heart skipped a beat and I scooted out of the way.
Exhibit A the beast:
The above pic is underexposed but there was no time to adjust the settings to get the correct exposure, she was moving fast.
Somewhere a palm branch russelled in the wind and I jumped, my senses are heightened now. So do I leave? Noooooo of course not! I followed slowly behind the cow. She met up with her cow friends and I followed the arrow in the pic bellow. I figured they went left I'll go right we can share the site.
It did occur to me that I heard a mooooo coming from the right but figured it just echoed off the abandoned buildings. It couldn't possibly be cows in a different location right? I end up face to face with a bull! A BULL!!! He was about 10 feet away (yes that's face to face in my book!). Oh and there will be no pics of the bull, my camera was still in hand but my flight instincts kicked in right about here.
This is where my internal dialogue started:
can you out run a bull? Hell no!
Don't turn your back on him
They say never run when face to face with a bear, is that valid for cows as well?
Don't run, running will only make him charge. right?
No one even knows you are here
Will they find the body?
So now I'm speed walking down the road in the direction of my car, while looking back and wondering what this must look like to someone else observing the scene, as the cows and the bull aren't even in pursuit.
Lol! got myself a workout today courtesy of some cows and a bull who where just hanging out!
Oh and I have yet to complete my assignment, will try again tomorrow at a different location. Hopefully beast free.
Never a dull moment. The adventure continues.....
